Business Lab / Strategic Advisory
I help businesses solve what isn’t working.
Business Lab is the strategic advisory and consulting arm for challenges that go beyond training.
It is designed for organisations that need direction, specialist thinking or practical support around a business function without forcing every problem into a training solution.
People/HR, Marketing, Finance, Operations, specialist consulting and innovation/advisory remain part of the Business Lab remit.

The right capability at the right time can be more useful than adding another department.
Strategic advisory should feel practical and embedded, not distant and theoretical.
We begin by understanding the business problem, what has already been tried, where the gap sits and what outcome the organisation needs. Depending on the requirement, Business Lab can bring the appropriate specialist or advisory capability into the organisation for a defined engagement, working alongside leadership and teams rather than handing over a report and disappearing.
02WHERE BUSINESS LAB CAN STEP IN
When a challenge crosses functions, the response may need to as well.
- ↗
People and HR advisory for organisations that need strategic guidance without a full internal HR department.
- ↗
Marketing and commercial direction where the business needs clearer positioning, customer thinking or growth support.
- ↗
Finance and business direction where specialist input is required for a specific challenge or decision.
- ↗
Operational problem solving and cross functional advisory where responsibility is unclear or capability is missing.
- ↗
Specialist consulting through an appropriate expert brought into the engagement based on the actual business need.
- ↗
Innovation and collaboration led initiatives that connect talent, businesses and emerging workforce models.
Diagnose the need, bring in the right expertise, and stay close to implementation.
Business Lab should feel like access to capability, not access to another deck.
01Define the business problem and the outcome leadership needs.
02Identify the capability gap, functional owner and internal constraints.
03Select the right specialist or advisory model for the requirement.
04Work with the business through a defined engagement, project or embedded support period.
05Build enough clarity, process or internal capability for the organisation to move forward with greater confidence.
A business and workforce challenge can create a wider ecosystem opportunity.
ReturnShip Alliance is a strong example of the wider thinking Business Lab can support.
ReturnShip Alliance was created around a real Sri Lankan workforce gap: experienced professionals who had stepped away from mainstream employment often lacked a practical route back, while micro and small to medium businesses needed access to capable back office support without the cost structure of a full traditional team.
The model reconnects experienced talent with flexible work opportunities while giving participating businesses access to practical capability. Training and onboarding support also assist employers in working effectively with the model. It is a useful example of what happens when the problem is approached as a system rather than a single service.
05WHO BUSINESS LAB IS FOR
Growing businesses often feel capability gaps before a full department is practical.
- ↗SME owners who need senior thinking around a function they have not yet fully built.
- ↗Mid sized corporates facing a specific strategic or operational problem.
- ↗Leaders who need an external perspective before making a difficult business decision.
- ↗Businesses requiring temporary or project based specialist capability.
- ↗Organisations exploring new workforce, advisory or collaboration models.
Bring us the business challenge. We will assist in identifying the expertise it needs.
